Arabic hadith text

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قَال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «العز إزاري، والكبرياء ردائي، فمن نازعني بشيء منهما عذبته».

English translation

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah, the Exalted, said: 'Glory is My Izār and Pride is My Cloak. I will punish whoever contends with Me over either of them.'"

Explanation

Explanation of the hadith

Glory and Pride are two attributes exclusive to Allah, and none shares them with Him as one does not share the cloak and lower garment he wears with anybody else. Allah, the Almighty, made these two attributes inherent in Him. These two unique attributes cannot be ascribed to anyone besides Allah. So, whoever claims glory and pride has in fact vied with Allah in His Dominion. Anyone who does so shall be punished by Allah, the Almighty.
